The Advantages of CEREC Crowns

Don't want to wait two weeks for a crown? You don't have to when you choose CEREC same-day crowns. Gold Canyon, AZ, dentists, Dr. dental crownsJonathan Lovell and Dr. Matthew Scheerhorn, share several benefits of CEREC crowns.

Only one appointment

In the past, you needed to visit the dentist twice if you need a crown. During the first visit, your tooth was prepared and soft dental putty was used to create an impression of your teeth. Because the impression is sent to a dental laboratory that specializes in making crowns and other dental restorations, it took a little while until you can receive your new crown. In most cases, you would return in about two or three weeks for a second appointment, during which the newly created crown was placed.

CEREC crowns only require one appointment. During that appointment to Dr. Lovell and Dr. Scheerhorn's Gold Canyon office, they'll prepare your tooth, making it easier to slip your new crown over it. CEREC crowns also require impressions, but instead of messy dental putty, the doctors use a digital camera to create a virtual 3D model of your mouth.

No waiting

Thanks to innovative CEREC software, there's no longer any need to involve a lab when you need a crown. Your dentist designs your new crown while you wait, then sends the design to a special in-office machine that mills your ceramic or resin crown. Creation of the crown takes just one half-hour or less.

No temporary crowns

Temporary crowns protect teeth until permanent crowns are ready but these restorations do have a few drawbacks. You'll need to avoid biting into hard or very chewy foods to avoid damaging your crown. Sticky foods must also be avoided because they can pull off your temporary crown. Temporary crowns may also feel a little bulky in your mouth. When you opt for a CEREC crown, there's no need for a temporary crown.

CEREC crowns are the perfect option for busy people. If you're interested if learning if CEREC crowns are a good option for you, call Gold Canyon, AZ, dentists, Dr. Jonathan Lovell and Dr. Matthew Scheerhorn, at (480) 671-7777 to schedule an appointment.
