Your Tooth Replacement Options

It doesn’t matter what caused your tooth loss, the important thing is to talk to your dentist so you can work together and figure out a solution that will suit your needs best. When it comes to tooth loss, it is not advisable to simply do nothing. Here at Superstition Mountain Dental in Gold Canyon, AZ, Dr. Jonathan Lovell and Dr. Matt Scheerhorn uses dentures, dental implants, and bridges to help patients rebuild their smiles.

Dental Implants

These artificial tooth replacements are inserted into your jawbone. They’re a great replacement option if you are missing one or more teeth. They provide benefits like:

  • Durability and permanency
  • Minimal dental maintenance for easier oral hygiene
  • Natural look and comfortable feel in your mouth
  • Prevents jawbone loss
  • No modification of adjacent teeth
  • Cost-effective because of its long lifespan

Implant-Supported Dentures

With implant-supported dentures, your dentist in Gold Canyon, AZ, will surgically insert two implants at the front of the arch where your front teeth previously were. Two more implants will be placed on either side at a 45-degree angle towards the back of the mouth. The overdenture can then be clipped to the dental implants using specialized attachments. Implant-supported dentures offer benefits such as:

  • Affordability
  • Stronger and more stable than traditional dentures
  • Feels less bulky because it doesn’t have a palate
  • Removable for easier cleaning

The Fixed Bridge

An implant-supported fixed bridge restores multiple missing teeth and even a complete arch of teeth. Your dentist has the option of either cementing or screwing it into place. The number of implants would be dependent on the type of implant used and the number of missing teeth. It offers:

  • A natural look and feel
  • Low cost
  • No grinding down of healthy teeth

Removable Dentures

These can be partial or complete and can replace one or multiple missing teeth. A gum-colored acrylic base is used to attach the denture teeth. This teeth replacement option is non-invasive and low-cost and carries these additional benefits:

  • Fill in gaps between teeth
  • Improved speech and more comfortable eating
  • Relatively quick and non-invasive
  • Proper support for the lips and cheeks
  • Restores facial dimensions
  • Can be adjusted to support the changing shape of your jawbone

The Resin-Bonded Bridge

Commonly referred to as a Rochette bridge, this is a good replacement option if you are missing your front teeth. It is, however, quite fragile and not capable of withstanding the forces created by chewing. The supporting teeth should be strong and healthy for this option to be successful. Despite not being as functional as dental implants, it has the benefits of:

  • Being cheaper and a less invasive option for teeth replacement
  • Restoring your ability to eat and speak well
  • Delivering the right amount of support for the lips
  • Keeping your remaining teeth from moving out of place
